Money Faces: Currency Dictionary, Currency
Genealogy, Currency Atlas
This series is result of an artistic research on non-economic
(social) functions of money.
The works are artistic documentations presented as an etymologic
dictionary of currencies, and its visualization in form of
family trees due to etymologic but also historic origins.
A visual form similar to an insect collection is used.
A third visualization due to geographic roots is being developed.
Resulting information for the functions of money such as
“symbol of continuity and security” or “advertisement
and propaganda tool” or even “measure for human
life as unit value of slaves” are given in short explanations
for each currency and category titles.
In this works you can find my silent critic on science and
how it defines our universe, but also my offer of different
view on money and economy.
Research Process
I collected 6000 different words, which has been used as currency
names all along the history. I could found the meanings of 2000
of them. The work contains images and short info of most of
them.
